EU: Commission sets out employment legislation agenda for 2008

Highlights of the European Commission's legislative plans for 2008 include proposals for revision of the Directives on European Works Councils, pregnant workers and transfers of undertakings, plus new draft legislation on non-EU labour migration and on a European Private Company Statute. Meanwhile, the outcomes of a consultation by the commission on the "modernisation" of labour law, published in October 2007, indicate that this exercise will not be a major source of new legislative proposals.
