EU Council: Ministers approve immigration pact
On 25 September 2008, the Justice and Home Affairs Council approved a “European pact on immigration and asylum”, which includes EU-wide principles and guidelines on labour migration from outside the EU.
The pact, which has been actively promoted by the current French presidency of the EU, sets out common principles and strategic guidelines for policies at national and European level on immigration to the member states from outside the EU.
