EU: Employers oppose European Parliament proposals on maternity rights
Amendments to the Pregnant Workers Directive proposed by the European Parliament in October 2010 have been heavily criticised by employers' groups and some national Governments, including that of the UK.
On 20 October 2010, following lengthy delays, the European Parliament gave a first reading to a draft Directive amending the Pregnant Workers Directive (92/85/EEC), proposed by the European Commission in 2008.
