EU: Member states make progress on implementation of equality Directives

The European Commission called off infringement proceedings against four member states in October 2009 after they brought their national law into line with various EU equality Directives, but opened proceedings against Germany and Portugal for failing to implement correctly a 2002 gender equality Directive.

Where the European Commission believes that a member state has not implemented an EU Directive correctly, it opens infringement proceedings.
