EU: MEPs call for 20 weeks' maternity leave

A European Parliament committee called in February 2010 for the Pregnant Workers Directive to be amended to guarantee 20 weeks' maternity leave and two weeks' paternity leave.

In October 2008, the European Commission proposed a draft Directive amending the Pregnant Workers Directive (Directive 92/85/EEC on the introduction of measures to encourage improvements in the safety and health at work of pregnant workers and workers who have recently given birth or are breastfeeding).
