EU social partners: Partners asked to negotiate on EWCs
On 20 February 2008, the European Commission invited EU-level representatives of trade unions and employers to open negotiations on updating and improving the way that European Works Councils (EWCs) operate, with a view to revising the existing EU Directive on the subject.
Revision of the 1994 EWCs Directive (94/45/EC) (on the EUR-Lex website) has been a contentious issue for nearly a decade.
