EU: Unions support Directive on second-hand smoke at work

In response to consultations by the European Commission, in February 2009 the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) called for a specific EU Directive to ban smoking in the workplace and to protect workers from exposure to environmental tobacco smoke.

In December 2008, the European Commission launched consultations of EU-level trade union and employers' organisations about possible action to protect workers from the risks related to exposure to environmental tobacco smoke (ETS) at the workplace.
