European Commission: Clampdown on employment of illegal immigrants proposed

On 16 May 2007, the European Commission issued a draft Directive on combating the employment of non-EU nationals who are staying illegally in EU member states. It argues that one of the factors encouraging illegal immigration into the EU is the possibility of finding work and wants to reduce this “pull factor” by preventing their employment.
