European Commission recommends employment reforms

In a set of recommendations to member states on economic and employment policy issued in January 2011, the European Commission called for reform of employment protection legislation, efforts to make work more attractive for "second earners", and wage moderation to help tackle budget deficits.

From 2011, the EU has introduced a new system of economic policy coordination surveillance, aimed at preventing excessive debts, deficits and imbalances.
