European Council: European Globalisation Adjustment Fund

On 19 December 2006, following agreement with the European parliament and European Commission, the Council of the European Union adopted a Regulation establishing a European Globalisation Adjustment Fund (EGF). The fund, agreed in principle by the European Council in October 2005 (European Employment Review (EER), formerly European Industrial Relations Review, 383 p.35), starts operations in 2007 and will provide assistance to workers affected by redundancies resulting from economic globalisation, helping them reintegrate into the labour market.
