European employers set out terms for Working Time Directive revision talks

BusinessEurope, the EU-level employers' body, indicated in April 2011 that it was willing to negotiate with trade unions over amendments to the Working Time Directive, but only on a very limited number of issues relating to on-call time and annual leave.

In December 2010, the European Commission asked EU-level trade union and employers' organisations if they were prepared to negotiate a European agreement on revision of the Working Time Directive (originally adopted in 1993 and now consolidated in Directive 2003/88/EC (on the EUR-Lex website)).
