European parliament: MEPs call for stronger information and consultation legislation

At its plenary session on 10 May 2007, the European parliament (EP) adopted a resolution calling on the European Commission to review and update EU legislation on the information and consultation of workers, in order to “ensure a coherent and efficient framework of law, guarantee legal certainty and improve the realisation of the social dialogue between the national and the European levels”.

The resolution refers to the Directives on national information and consultation rules (2002/14/EC), European Works Councils (94/45/EC), collective redundancies (98/59/EC) and transfers of undertakings (2001/23/EC).
