European parliament: Supplementary pensions proposal given first reading

At its plenary session on 20 June 2007, the European parliament (EP) gave the draft Directive on the portability of supplementary pension rights a first reading, proposing a number of amendments.

The draft was proposed by the European Commission in October 2005, with the aim of removing obstacles to labour mobility within the EU and to workers’ career development opportunities that arise from provisions in employment-based supplementary pension schemes.
