European Union: Services Directive nearing final adoption

The controversial proposal for a Directive on services in the internal market is nearing the end of the legislative process and the bulk of the debate on its content has now taken place. Many of the provisions that sparked protests among trade unions have been eliminated or amended and the text as it stands has been welcomed by trade unions and accepted by employer representatives.
