EWCs: Gaz de France EWC delays Suez merger
On 21 November 2006, French courts issued an injunction halting the merger process between Gaz de France (GdF) and Suez until the former had properly met its information and consultation obligations to its European Works Council (EWC).
The proposed merger between GdF, the France-based gas group - which is currently state-owned but being privatised - and Suez, the utilities multinational also headquartered in France, was announced in February 2006.
