France: Court clarifies position on voluntary redundancy schemes
In a ruling issued in October 2010, France's highest court found that employers may reduce their workforces by means of voluntary redundancies without being obliged to try to redeploy the employees concerned within the company.
In companies with 50 or more employees, if the employer is contemplating 10 or more redundancies over a period of 30 days, [Article:98434#9.4 "it is obliged by law to draw up a "plan to safeguard employment" (plan de sauvegarde de l'emploi),"] seeking to reduce the number of planned redundancies and help employees who are made redundant.
