France: Duration of short-time work benefit extended

The French Government increased the maximum period of state benefit for employees on short-time work from 800 to 1,000 hours per year in September 2009.

The state-funded short-time work benefit scheme (chômage partiel) provides compensation for workers whose earnings are cut because their employer temporarily closes all or part of its business or reduces collective working hours because of economic difficulties or exceptional circumstances.
