France: Government announces legislation on minimum wage and pay bargaining

The government has stated that it will introduce draft legislation in the first quarter of 2008 aimed at creating a “new pay dynamic”. The proposals focus on the relationship between collective bargaining on pay and reductions in employers’ social security contributions, and on the setting of the smic statutory national minimum wage.
