France: Government will promote employment of older workers

On 28 April 2008, Xavier Bertrand, the minister of labour, consulted trade unions and employers’ organisations on a set of proposals relating to retirement and the employment of older workers, including an obligation on employers to commit themselves to employing a certain proportion of workers aged 55-64.

The proposals aim to ensure the future financial health of the pensions system.
