France: Law makes 'solidarity day' scheme more flexible

A law adopted in April 2008 introduces greater flexibility in the controversial "solidarity day" scheme, whereby employees must work an additional unpaid day each year in order to fund assistance for elderly and disabled people.

Legislation adopted in June 2004 introduced an annual "solidarity day", an additional day of work for which employees receive no pay.
