France: New law introduces union elections in small firms

Legislation adopted in France in October 2010 provides for four-yearly polls to gauge support for trade unions among the employees of companies with less than 11 staff.

Legislation adopted in August 2008 introduced new criteria for assessing whether or not trade unions are "representative", and thus entitled to bargaining, consultative and other rights.
