France: Overtime pay exempted from tax

On 1 August 2007, the French parliament adopted legislation abolishing income tax on earnings from overtime work and cutting the social security contributions levied on this part of workers' pay.

The law, proposed by the centre-right government in June, seeks to make overtime work more lucrative for employees, thereby encouraging them to work beyond the statutory 35-hour normal working week.
