France: Social partners examine financial participation and employee savings

At the request of the Government, French trade unions and employers' organisations outlined their proposals in July 2009 for a reform of statutory employee financial participation and savings schemes, an issue on which they will hold talks later in the year.

In May 2009, President Nicolas Sarkozy asked the main trade union confederations and employers' organisations to hold discussions on the "sharing of added value, the sharing of profits and disparities in remuneration", based on a report on the issue commissioned from Jean-Pierre Cotis, the director general of Insee, the national statistical institute.
