France: Transport strike law is adopted

The French parliament adopted government legislation on dispute prevention and minimum services during strikes in public transport on 2 August 2007, despite parliamentary opposition and trade union protests.

The centre-right government had proposed the law in July, with the aim of guaranteeing users of land-based public transport a "reduced but organised" service in the event of strikes or other foreseeable disturbances.
