France: Unions to be consulted on restructuring

At a meeting with France’s five main trade union confederations on 13 January 2009, President Nicolas Sarkozy announced that unions will be better informed and consulted on the “prevention and treatment” of industrial restructuring during the current economic crisis, making an input into public policy at sector and local level.

Sarkozy met the leaders of the CFDT, CFE-CGC, CFTC, CGT and FO union confederations in January to discuss “the country’s industrial situation”.
