Furniture deal raises rates by up to 3.7%

A pay and conditions agreement negotiated under the auspices of the British Furniture Joint Industrial Council (BFJIC) has resulted in cash increases on minimum rates of 14p per hour for journeymen/women and packers, worth 2.5% and 2.7% respectively on the nationally agreed minimum rates. The minimum hourly rate for labourers/porters increases by 18.44p an hour (worth 3.7%) as part of a strategy to harmonise their rates with those applicable to packers by 2008.
