Germany: Bargaining in 2008 brings higher wage increases

Increases in collectively agreed pay in the first half of 2008 were generally up on the previous year, according to an analysis of this year’s pay round conducted by the trade union-linked Economic and Social Research Institute (WSI).

According to the WSI’s July 2008 Tarifpolitischer Halbjahresbericht (on the WSI website), the settlements taking effect in the first half of the year brought average headline pay increases of 4.6%.
