Germany: Coalition reaches minimum wage compromise

After almost two years of intensive national debate on the issue, on 19 June 2007 the parties in the conservative–social democrat coalition government reached a compromise on the issue of minimum wage regulation. There will not be a statutory minimum wage with nationwide application, but a complex solution based on two instruments.
