Germany: Government action likely to limit top pay

Proposals to tighten corporate governance with the aim of creating greater accountability over top pay in quoted companies are expected to be announced by the conservative-social democrat coalition in autumn 2008.

Pressure has been building for action on what is perceived in some quarters, such as among trade unions, as excessive directors’ remuneration, which has risen faster than the pay of other groups.
