Germany: Minimum wage dispute in construction resolved

Agreement was reached in June 2008 in a dispute over minimum pay rates in the construction industry in eastern Germany, following conciliation conducted by Wolfgang Clement, the former economics and labour minister.

The conflict related to the provisions under the Posted Workers Law (Entsendegesetz) that allow an agreed minimum wage rate to be applied by decree to all employers in certain industries listed in this law - including construction.
