Germany: ver.di challenges status of rival union in agency work sector

The ver.di services trade union stated in late October 2008 that it intends to take court action to challenge the status of the CGZP, a rival union that has signed collective agreements in the temporary agency work sector.

Temporary agency work is increasingly important in Germany, with employment in the sector rising from 150,000 in 1995 to more than 700,000 by 2007.
