Gordon Brown targets the grey vote

The final Budget before the forthcoming general election saw Chancellor of the Exchequer Gordon Brown announce modest measures that benefit pensioners.

There were other measures affecting pensions, plus confirmation of the increases to state benefits, income tax allowances for those aged 65 and above and national insurance rates, as revealed in the pre-Budget statement.
