Greece: Conflict over private universities
The government's plans to legalise private universities (EER 390 p.9) by amending art. 16 of the constitution - which provides for a state monopoly in the provision of university education - have led to strikes, sit-ins and demonstrations by university and secondary school teachers, students and unions during January 2007.
