HSE gives engineers warning on the need to maintain machinery
Badly maintained machinery is highlighted as a major risk to workers' safety in new HSE advice. The HSE says poor maintenance is at the root of four in 10 incidents involving mechanical presses and that a survey found that two thirds of lathe users had not adequately assessed the need to maintain the machine so that it was safe to use (see box).
