International: Delphi protests spread across Europe

On 21 May 2007, the European Metalworkers’ Federation (EMF) and the company’s European Works Council (EWC) organised a “European action day” in protest at Delphi’s plans to close its plant at Puerto Real in Spain, and its restructuring strategy in Europe.

The auto components manufacturer filed for “chapter 11” bankruptcy protection in the US in 2005 and is currently selling off businesses and closing plants as part of a restructuring plan that it hopes will allow it to exit bankruptcy.
