International: Maritime unions merge across borders
In a pioneering move, maritime professionals' trade unions from the Netherlands and the UK merged in May 2009 to form a single "trans-boundary" union, known as Nautilus International.
Plans to merge the UK's National Union of Marine, Aviation and Shipping Transport Officers (NUMAST) and the Dutch Federatie van Werknemers in de Zeevaart (FWZ) were first announced in May 2005.
