International: Maritime unions plan cross-border merger

It was announced in November 2005 that two maritime workers' trade unions - one based in the Netherlands and the other in the UK - have set up a partnership and plan to merge in 2008.

The unions involved in the highly unusual merger initiative are the UK's National Union of Marine, Aviation and Shipping Transport Officers (NUMAST) and the Dutch Federatie van Werknemers in de Zeevaart (FWZ).
