International: Planned closure of Nokia plant causes furore

On 15 January 2008, Nokia, the Finland-based mobile telephone manufacturer, announced the closure of its production plant in Bochum, Germany, which has a permanent workforce of 2,300 plus 1,000 workers on temporary contracts. The planned closure caused controversy in Germany and more widely in Europe.
