International: Unions organise European day of action at Unilever

On 4 December 2007, the Unilever European Works Council and European trade union organisations held a "European action day" to protest against management plans to cut 20,000 jobs, including one-third of its western European workforce.

On 2 August 2007, Unilever – a UK/Dutch food and home products multinational – announced that it would be cutting 20,000 jobs and selling off "slow-growth" businesses as part of a strategy to streamline its operations, reduce costs and concentrate on core brands with potential for rapid growth.
