Ireland: Employers and unions clash on recognition

Irish employers and trade unions renewed hostilities in June 2010 over the vexed issue of union recognition, with disagreement over whether or not mandatory recognition would threaten jobs and the role of EU law in this area.

Ireland has no system of statutory trade union recognition, which has long been opposed by employers.
