Ireland: Government plans exemptions from sectoral minimum wages

The Irish Government announced in January 2010 the introduction of a scheme allowing companies that can prove "inability to pay" to gain exemptions from the binding minimum pay rates that apply in a number of industries, such as catering and construction.

Aside from the statutory national minimum wage, Ireland has two mechanisms for setting minimum pay rates in specific sectors.
