Ireland: Recession brings "explosion" in employment rights cases

In September 2010, Ireland's Labour Relations Commission (LRC) reported a huge increase in the number of employment rights complaints made by employees as a result of the economic downturn.

The LRC is a public workplace dispute-resolution body that provides conciliation, mediation and advisory services and, through its Rights Commissioner service, deals with disputes, grievances and claims brought by individuals or small groups of workers under numerous items of employment legislation, including those related to pay, working time and leave.
