Ireland: Union recognition under debate

During May 2008, trade union recognition was on the agenda of talks about a new national pay agreement, with the government indicating that it would not concede union demands for a system of mandatory recognition, although it would consider amending existing legislation in this area.

There is no statutory right to trade union recognition in Ireland.
