Italy: Fiat removes plant from coverage of industry-wide agreement

Fiat provoked a storm of controversy in July 2010 when it set up a new subsidiary to run a car plant in southern Italy, thereby taking the factory outside the scope of the national collective agreement for the metalworking industry.

In June 2010, Fiat reached an agreement with trade unions on the introduction of new working practices at its Pomigliano D'Arco plant, near Naples.
