Italy: Grass-roots unions hold nationwide strike
On 17 October 2008, grass-roots “base” trade unions organised a general strike that disrupted public transport and education across Italy.
The strike was called by Cub, Cobas and Sdl, which group radical rank-and-file unions outside the main confederations - Cgil, Cisl and Uil - and have their greatest strength in the public sector.
