Italy: Restructuring plans cause conflict

In April 2008, with the Italian economy facing difficulties, the plans of several major companies to cut their workforces and restructure their operations have led to strikes and industrial relations tensions.

On 19 April, trade unions called a 16-hour strike across the agri-food sector in protest at a restructuring plan announced by Granarolo, Italy’s second-largest dairy products company.
