Italy: Unions divided over construction industry bargaining

In November 2009, the three main trade unions in the construction sector presented separate demands for a new collective agreement, a highly unusual move that underlines the current difficulties in the Italian bargaining system.

The Government and all main social partner organisations, except the left-leaning Cgil trade union confederation, reached an accord in January 2009 on reforming the collective bargaining system.
