Latvia: Social services protest underlines low pay issue

On 8 March 2007, the Trade Union of Health and Social Care Employees of Latvia (LVSADA) organised a picket in Riga, calling for an increase in pay and an improvement in conditions for social workers and other public employees working in social care and assistance.

LVSADA has been negotiating with Riga city council over its demands for higher pay rates since November 2006, so far without any success.
