NHS maintenance grades: 3.225% basic rise

    Building and maintenance workers employed by the NHS have received a 3.225% pay rise in the second stage of a three-year deal, effective from the beginning of the pay week in which 1 April 2004 falls. The rise applies to salary scales, London allowances, shift and on-call allowances.

    Other changes to payments and allowances include:

  • London allowances are now set at £39.88 per week for staff employed in specified health authorities in the London zone; £17.52 per week for outer London health authorities specified in the "extra territorially managed and contiguous units"; and £5.04 per week for fringe areas, which includes health authorities in Berkshire, Hampshire, Hertfordshire, Essex, Kent and Surrey.
