No action by CRE on positive discrimination

The Commission for Racial Equality (CRE) is to take no action against two police forces whose recruitment practices used positive discrimination in breach of the Race Relations Act 1976. Both Avon and Somerset Police and Gloucestershire Police rejected white applicants in favour of ethnic minority candidates (see Sexism and homophobia 'rife' in police forces) but have assured the CRE that they will comply with the law in future.
